[GEEK] Tools for the age of unopenable windows at work...

I am once again reminded of why Firefox is so nice. For the past week or so, I've been using the ForecastFox plugin. This is a little tool based on weather.com, which shows the current weather and forecasts in the Firefox status bar, so I have them to hand. The particular gain here is that it let me get rid of WeatherBug, the *incredibly* irritating version of the same idea that comes with AIM these days.

(Uninstalling WeatherBug was faintly amusing, because it was so forlorn. First it asks (paraphrased), "Do you want to uninstall WeatherBug?" Then it follows with, "Are you *sure* you want to uninstall WeatherBug?" Finally, it finishes up with a third window that boils down to "Here's a checkbox to make the program suck less, if you'll just keep it!" Too late...)

Anyway, the more I use Firefox, the more I like the whole plugins thing. It'll be interesting to see if Microsoft gets that particular clue when IE 7.0 comes out, and comes out with a less dreadful plugins model themselves...
