The main focus of my event was shepherding student reporters. I spent a fair amount of time a bit confused, until I figured out that
Generally a good time -- I'm always at my best when burbling about the Society, and the two of them were quite different. Eva was the more organized interviewer, with a long list of (fairly well-chosen) questions that she was asking each person and a digital recorder for the interviews, but was largely a sympathetic outsider. Talking with Juhi was more stream-of-consciusness, and she was scribbling notes as quickly as she could, but she clearly knew more about period and was more taken by the event itself -- she's the one who I think has more potential to actually pull into the Society. Both were fun to talk to and hang out with.
It was delightful to see a large swarm of Fenmeri at the event: they had nine current students (largely freshmen), along with the recent grads. Knock on wood, things are looking good for the Borough.
No shopping for me this year. I'm experiencing a bit of cashflow crunch -- I haven't been paid for my December work yet, so I'm flat broke, but that did inspire a little more caution than usual. Did some window-shopping anyway, though, and gave a couple of dollars to the Royal Travel Fund game. (Use the little trebuchet to try and throw little duct-tape "boulders" through the gate and windows of a big castle cutout. Fun, and not easy.)
Court was a typical Birka butt-buster, but had some notable highlights.
And of course, there was sushi. Service was crappy, but the Special Roll is exceptionally good at the moment.
So overall, a good time: very much Birka as usual...
