Imagine -- actually learning science in science class
Thanks to rosinavs for the pointer to this very neat article about an elementary-school science class that devised, conducted and *published* a non-trivial bit of research -- in a journal of the Royal Society, no less. A fine example of not only really teaching Real Science to kids, but showing them how it can be fun...

Inspiring. Thanks. I recall my school years: I was very much a science nerd, but I came to realize (well after the fact) that I had been rewarded far more for memorizing facts (at which I was very very good) and not so much for developing any facility for using those facts. I don't think I'm alone.
