My lifestyle just isn't the same as other peoples'

I am only one of many people taking tomorrow off at my office. But it only now occurs to me that most of them are taking it off for Good Friday -- whereas I'm taking it off to help out with the Burlesque Expo. Which doesn't actually bother me, but the contrast is kind of striking...

So you are taking it off for better Friday...

The multi-use phrase 'taking it off', in that entry, is probably not what you entendre'd but I'm giggling nonetheless.

I've know about "modern" burlesque for a few years, but just recently started attending events. I'm finding it very enjoyable on many levels.

It really is. A bunch of my close friends (who are deeply involved in the Expo) run The Boston Babydolls, one of the major troupes involved in the revival, so I've been a casual fan of the scene pretty much from the start. It's been quite neat, watching it go from a pretty fringey artform to an almost mainstream one...

I met someone from the Baby Dolls a year or so ago and have been on the mailing list ever since. If we ever make it to Boston again, we plan on attending one of their events.

The SF Bay Area has several troops and some weeks have multiple shows. The Hubba Hubba Review has at least 1 show a week. You can see some of my pics from a show at my flickr page:

Ah, cool. Scratch, Mina and Betty are all extremely close friends (since long before the BBD started), so you may well run into me at a show...

I am always surprised by how many people still celebrate Good Friday. Hmmm. I wonder if anyone here will.

Whereas I am in the somewhat opposite position. I am -given- tomorrow off, and would like to spend more of it helping with the expo, however, I must spend it preparing for easter, as we are having 15 people for dinner....

Yeah, it's a topic of mild melancholy for me: while it was never a *big* deal with us, Jane and I always did a traditional lamb roast for Easter. So I'm planning out a fun weekend for myself, and not thinking about the holiday too much...

Are you going to serve them with BBQ sauce, or simply a nice spice rub?

ba-dum-bum-ting

Mint Jelly is traditional...

The NY stock exchange is always closed on Good Friday. I wonder whether they really expect that that many traders will be at church or if some superstitious thing is at the base of it (Good Friday/Black Friday sound too much alike?).
